Why Locals Love Coto Paraikatte

Coto Paraikatte is a beloved culinary gem located in the heart of Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan, specializing in traditional South Sulawesi Soto cuisine. Nestled conveniently along Jl. A. P. Pettarani No.125, right before a well-known gas station, this restaurant offers an authentic taste experience that resonates deeply with locals and visitors alike.

The star of Coto Paraikatte’s menu is undoubtedly their Coto Makassar, a rich, hearty soup brimming with tender, juicy meat and a broth infused with a perfect balance of spices. Diners will immediately notice the broth’s thicker texture compared to common soto varieties, lending a comforting depth and warmth to each spoonful. The meat’s succulent texture and the spicy, savory flavors awaken the senses, evoking feelings of true Indonesian culinary tradition. Not to be missed is the accompaniment of buras or ketupat—rice cakes whose dense texture provides an enjoyable contrast to the flavorful soup. Though some guests have found the ketupat a bit thick, many agree it complements the dish wonderfully.

The dining atmosphere at Coto Paraikatte reflects its local charm: a straightforward, spacious seating arrangement with fans providing relief, though without air conditioning—perfect for those who appreciate a casual, down-to-earth setting while savoring their meal. The restaurant’s strategic location on a main road makes it accessible and easy to find, with clear signage and map directions ensuring no one misses out on this culinary treasure.

Customers have shared their honest experiences—praising the authentic and juicy meat texture, the well-balanced hot and spicy soup, and the overall value for money that Coto Paraikatte offers. While some have noted room for improvement in elements like seating comfort and hygiene standards, the overwhelmingly positive reactions to the flavors and the heartfelt hospitality create an inviting and rewarding dining experience.

For those looking to taste the soul of Makassar’s culinary scene, Coto Paraikatte offers more than just a meal—it invites you to connect with the rich heritage and bold tastes that define South Sulawesi’s traditional cuisine.

If you’re in the area and craving an authentic Indonesian soup experience that blends tradition with bold flavor, Coto Paraikatte is a must-visit destination.

Tastes are fine but I think it still can improve. Hot spices soup fine, meat a bit need extra chew, buras/ketupat is somewhat too thick. But if consider the price, this menu is totally worthed! Located at main road, right before gas station, sign were clear and maps direcred to the exact place. Seating arrangement is plenty, no air conditioning and only fan which will be hot inside if u come in for brunch or lunch. There only limited park area, as it located in extremely busy road all day long. They offer two types of portions: big and small (save portion) and I ordered the small one. Considering my every meal portion is also small, so the small version is perfect to me. I had not seen any option of drinks available except mineral water. They also serve banana for free, people take this after meal.

The first time I tried Coto, it's almost like soto but this is typical for eating with buras or ketupat and the broth is a little thick, and you get free muli bananas when you pay, the place is strategic on a big road

It's not the most affordable one you can find in the city, but the taste absolutely a lot better than other places. Absolutely delicious, love it.

This restaurant provides soto in Makassar which famous for “coto”. The taste was average as others. Coto was adding ‘ketupat’ and could add as you liked.
